Import and export STEP or BREP solids

Open a solid file, set its source coordinates, and download the validated solid as STEP or BREP.

Use ALcad in Cloud 2.1.2.10 or the Windows app 2.1.2.3.

Open a solid file

  1. In ALcad, open 3D CAD, then choose STEP / BREP exchange in the toolbar.

  2. If the Properties panel is hidden, choose Show Properties. Under Source coordinates, set Source up axis to Y or Z. For a BREP file, set BREP source units to mm, cm, m or in.

  3. Choose Open STEP / BREP and select a .step, .stp or .brep file. Use a UTF-8 text file up to 8 MiB containing 1–32 closed solids and up to 2000 faces.

  4. Wait for the preview and Closed solid geometry validated. Review Solids, Faces and the X, Y and Z dimensions.

STEP uses its embedded units. The preview and downloads use millimeters with Z up.

Convert the current solid

  1. Open a solid containing features in 3D CAD.

  2. Choose STEP / BREP exchange, then Convert current solid.

  3. Wait for the preview and Closed solid geometry validated.

Apply source coordinates

  1. After opening a file, change BREP source units or Source up axis under Source coordinates as needed.

  2. Choose Apply solid coordinates and wait for the updated preview.

Apply an edge operation

  1. Open or convert one closed solid. In Properties, find Edge modification.

  2. Set Edge scope to All edges, or choose One original source edge and select an Original source edge from the list.

  3. Set Edge operation to Fillet or Chamfer. Enter Fillet radius (mm) or Chamfer distance (mm) from 0.05 to 10000.

  4. Choose Apply edge operation and wait for the updated preview.

  5. To restore the source shape, choose Return to original.

Download the exchanged solid

  1. Wait for processing to finish. If you changed the source coordinates, choose Apply solid coordinates first.

  2. Choose Download STEP or Download BREP in the toolbar.

  3. Choose Back to solid to return to the authoring solid, or Close exchange solid to clear the exchange result.
