Measure distances in a vFactory fab

Pick two scene points or enter their coordinates to read distance and height differences.

Open the reference fab in vFactory, then measure distances between two points in the scene. These steps apply to Cloud and the Windows app.

Pick two points

  1. Select Visitor tools in the scene toolbar, then expand Measure.

  2. Select Pick A in 3D, then click a visible floor or surface in the 3D scene.

  3. Select Pick B in 3D, then click the second point. Selecting either pick button from 2D map switches the scene to Top view.

Read distance and height

After both points are set, read 3D distance for the straight-line distance and Plan distance for the horizontal distance. ΔZ is point B’s elevation minus point A’s elevation, so it can be negative. All three values use mm.

Measure in Visitor tools after two points were picked on the fab floor in the 3D map. Point A and Point B both use Custom elevation with Z 50, and the readout shows 3D distance: 88,244.9 mm and Plan distance: 88,244.9 mm · ΔZ: 0 mm, with the note Scene geometry only; this is not an as-built survey or a clearance certification.

Two points picked on the same floor: the 3D distance equals the plan distance, and ΔZ is 0 mm.

Enter coordinates

  1. Under Point A and Point B, enter X, Y and Z in mm. Z is the absolute elevation in the scene. Use the coordinate ranges shown beneath the fields.

  2. For a scene with facility levels, use Level preset to set a point’s Z to a level elevation. You can then edit Z to choose another height.

  3. Select Measure coordinates to apply the two points and update the readout.

Measure in Visitor tools with coordinates entered. Point A uses the Cleanroom level preset with Z 0 and Point B uses the Fan deck preset. After Measure coordinates, the readout shows 3D distance: 60,299.3 mm and Plan distance: 60,000 mm · ΔZ: 6,000 mm.

Point B uses the Fan deck level preset, so ΔZ shows a height difference of 6,000 mm.

Finish measuring

While point picking is active, select Stop picking points to keep the measurement and finish picking. Select Clear measurement to remove both points and their readout.

Reference-fab dimensions are synthetic example assumptions, not measurements from a real fab.
