Check and select testbench simulators

Check the simulator extension and choose Icarus Verilog or Verilator for a local Windows testbench.

Use these steps for a local project in Digital Design Studio 2.1.2.3 for Windows.

Check the installation

  1. Open Plugins and select OSS CAD Suite simulators.

  2. Read the installation status. If the extension is not installed, select Install and wait for installation to finish.

  3. Check the installed status for the OSS CAD Suite release and Icarus Verilog version.

Select a simulator

  1. Open Flow Navigator → Simulation → Run Simulation. If a dialog opens, choose Open Simulation setup. In the RTL simulation tab, select Testbench.

  2. Under Testbench, select the top module to run. Under Simulator, choose Icarus Verilog or an available Verilator entry.

  3. Choose Run. Digital Design Studio saves changed simulation input files first.

Check simulator requirements

Icarus Verilog is selected initially. Verilator also needs a C++ compiler and make on this PC. If its entry is disabled after installation, read the simulator status in Plugins.

If the extension is missing when you choose Run, the installation dialog opens. Choose Download and install to continue, or Not now to return without running.
