When a testbench does not run

Check testbench discovery, simulator installation, file saves and reported errors in a local Windows project.

Use these checks for a local project in Digital Design Studio 2.1.2.3 for Windows. Start in the RTL simulation tab with Testbench selected.

No testbench found

A testbench must be a module without ports that no other module instantiates, such as module counter_tb;. Check the module in a .v or .sv project file, save it, then choose Rescan. Select the testbench before choosing Run.

Installation needs attention

If the simulator extension is not installed, choose Run, then Download and install in the dialog.

If the message says the installed simulator files failed verification, open Plugins, select OSS CAD Suite simulators and install it again.

If Verilator needs a C++ compiler and make, follow the Windows toolchain message in the plugin details, then choose Refresh.

An input could not be saved

If the message names a file that could not be saved, save that file, then choose Run again.

The simulator reports a failure

Read Simulator log. If Locations in the log is shown, select a file location to open its source line. Check the reported error before running again. A testbench can report a failure even when the simulator exits with code 0.
